Order of Command

The Captain of the vessel has the responsibility of the safety of the crew and passengers at all times while aboard the vessel.  The passengers and crew are required to follow the direction of the Captain at all times.  Orders will be given verbally and must be adhered to.  If at any time there is a conflict of this order of command, the US Coast Guard will be contacted.  As a passenger or crew, you have the ability to report the Captain to the US Coast Guard of the Captain’s Conduct for review,  but in the meantime while aboard the vessel you MUST OBEY THE ORDER OF COMMAND.  The Crew will be introduced as “crew” prior to departing.  This person will be second in command at all times.  If both the Captain and Crew were to become unable to perform, the passengers are to use the VHF radio to contact the US Coast Guard for instruction.  The radio will be explained and shown in the mandatory pre-departure safety briefing.

Manifest

Prior to boarding, the “customer” or “passenger” must have completed a Passenger Manifest form.  This is a requirement for the Captain to have for ALL passengers.  This Manifest will include Your full name, Emergency Contact Information And Emergency Contact Information.

Items Brought on Board

We ask that items you bring with you be limited to those that you simply cannot go without for the duration of the trip.  Please leave any other items in your vehicle, your hotel room, or at home.

The Captain can refuse items to be brought on board if he/she deems them to be unnecessary to the trip.   It is the responsibility of the passenger to have alternate storage for those items.

We do provide an enclosed container for items.  That space is limited to a (12″ x 8″ x 8″) cubby that can be held on you or in the cabin.  Any items that do not fit in this personal cubby need to be monitored by the individual bringing them aboard.

All personal effects are the sole responsibility of the carrier.  Please make sure you know where your items are at all times.  We are not responsible for damaged property.  Please use common sense when using your items (example:  hanging your phone over the rail to get a better shot of the wildlife and drop it into the ocean).

We welcome cameras and filming equipment.  We will also allow underwater cameras to be brought aboard.  Please see camera and photo rules below for detailed information about the usage of cameras

Small Coolers can be brought with the discretion of the Captain.  For specific questions related to the size and contents of the cooler, please see Beverage and Food section below.

 A Hat, Sunglasses, and Sunblock are advised, SPF 50+ recommended.

Minimum Age

The minimum age for the safari (public trips) is 5 years old

Health and Safety Precautions

The Captain is required by law to be CPR and 1st Aid Certified.  There is a 1st aid kit available and visible on the vessel.

Prior to departure please ensure communication with the captain of any medical conditions you may have. ( i.e Pregnant, Diabetes, Blood Pressure Issues, Pacemakers…etc)  This is not an exclusion from participation, but designed to help design an action/response plan if in the event an issue was to arise.

All passengers will be required to wear Type IV Life jackets (will be provided) Please make sure you fill out the registration page prior to purchasing tickets and make sure you have filled out your life jacket size. 

The Ocean can be bumpy and unpredictable and all passengers should be in good health and able to withstand occasional bumps.  Common Sense will prevail best here.  If you have any health concerns, please advise the crew or captain prior to departure, and we can make adjustments or suggestions to make your trip as worry free as possible.

We do not have the ability to safely transport wheelchairs on and off of the vessel at this time.  Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions about the accommodations that can be made.  We will do our best to offer this service to everyone as close to our physical limitations as possible.  We want everyone to enjoy this, and will make any adjustments within our capabilities.

Ocean Conditions

The Captain will make the decision if conditions are not favorable for continuation of the tour at any time.  Refer to the rescheduling and refunds policies below for information about terminated trips.

Be mindful of Ocean Spray in regards to electronics or any other items you do not want to get wet.  

We do provide an enclosed container for items you would not want to get wet.  that space is limited to a (12″ x 8″ x 8″) cubby that can be held on you or in the cabin.  Any items that do not fit in this personal cubby need to be monitored by the individual bringing them aboard.

Clothing:  Weather conditions can change rapidly.  Dress the same way you would for the conditions of the day walking around.  Bringing a light waterproof jacket is recommended, but not required.  

Seats will be provided and a sturdy place has been designed for all passengers.  Please sit while underway.  Moving around the vessel is not recommended while underway.  The Captain will let passengers know when to move around the deck freely.

If at any time you are unsteady or feel unsafe, please let the Captain or crew know as soon as possible.

Not everyone has “sea legs” and occasional sickness can occur.  Sick Bags will be provided in your welcome kit and please keep them close to your person.  Proper disposal trash cans will be provided on the vessel and please use those after getting sick.  We do not need to feed the wildlife your already been chewed breakfast or lunch. 

Camera and Photo Rules

Channel Islands Marine Safari Adventures has multiple social media accounts and promotional videos/pictures are produced from cameras that are on board.   Your image may appear in promotional material from C I Marine Safari.  Please email [email protected] if you would like to express your concerns to not have your image displayed.  We will take this into account and do our best to not show your image or voice.

We may have professional photographers / videographers on board at any time.

The laws that govern photography in public spaces are observed, and you should be aware your image may appear on someone’s social media page, their family photo albums, or anywhere else they display their account of the trip.  Please be courteous and ask any other group or person to not include you in their pictures if you do not want to be filmed -or photo’d.

Audio from Videos follow the same rules as the Camera and Photo Rules.  We are in a public setting.

Beverage and Food

Coolers:  Cooler sizes need to be limited to the size you can comfortably fit on your lap.  We do allow you to bring your own beverages and food. We do not allow alcoholic beverages, due to insurance and local ordinances.  

We do carry water bottles for your convenience in the event you forgot to bring water.  Just ask the Captain and we will be happy to accommodate.

We do not provide snacks.  Please bring your own if you need to have snacks on the water, but please be mindful of the cooler restrictions.

Rescheduling and Refunds

Payment in full is due at time of booking

Weather and other factors can cause cancelations at any time.  This decision will be made by The Captain.  Full refunds and/or the option to reschedule will be made available to all customers if the Captain terminates the trip.  Emails will be sent out to alert customers of any change in schedule.  In person communication will be made in lieu of emails as of 30 minutes to departure time.

In consideration of our customers, the tours will run on-time.  If a customer is not present and checked in by the time the tour starts, the boat will leave without them and their will be no refund issued.  The option of rescheduling may be considered in certain circumstances.  Please email [email protected] with any updates to your situation.  We will try to work with you.

The Captain reserves the right to terminate the trip at any time.

If the trip is terminated (cancelled) any time prior to boarding by the Captain 100 % of the tour will be refunded with the option to reschedule at a later (available time and day) period.

If the trip is terminated during the tour by the Captain, refunds will be issued depending on the length of the trip before the cancelation.  The prorated amount will be issued to customers based on the percentage of tour accomplished.  (example:  halfway through the trip, the Captain terminates the trip, then 50% of the tour cost will be refunded to the customer)

Customers are asked to make their best possible assessment of their own condition.  Once the tour commences, If the customer requests the trip return to port to let them off of the boat for any reason they will be liable for their own ticket price and no refund will be issued.  A rescheduling option will be presented in certain instances with no additional costs.  Depending on the reason for returning to port and the financial impact to Channel Islands Marine Safari Adventures, the said customer could be held responsible for the financial loss to the business.  (other customers refunds)  We do not want this to make you feel uneasy about communicating your need to return to port, but consideration for the business and the other passengers experience should be kept at a priority.

Transfer of tickets:  Tickets are transferable any time prior to 30 minutes before departure.  The correct name needs to be associated with the ticket due to the manifest needing to be accurate.  Email [email protected] if you have any questions about transferring your ticket.
