An Update from Captain Dave & the North Sea (AUGUST 2026)

We’ve experienced a setback — but Captain Dave and the North Sea will be back.

Our momentum has been building, and we’ve had the privilege of taking hundreds of Adventurers out on the water for an up-close look at Channel Islands Harbor. Seeing the smiles on our guests’ faces is, without question, Captain Dave’s favorite part of what he does.

Unfortunately, it pains us to announce that the North Sea is temporarily out of service due to a transmission issue.

During a recent trip, Captain Dave noticed an alarm that indicated something wasn’t right. Fortunately, the problem was caught early, before allowing the transmission to suffer a complete failure. But it does need to be removed, inspected, and properly repaired before the North Sea returns to passenger service.

So, what happens now?

We get to work.

With more than 20 years in commercial fishing, Captain Dave has been around boats long enough to know that sometimes this is simply part of owning and operating a working vessel. This is what captains do — we get in there, figure out what needs to be done, and take care of it.

Captain Dave will personally be performing a significant portion of the work, along with experienced marine mechanics and specialists where needed.

And while the North Sea is down, we’re taking advantage of the opportunity to complete several additional upgrades and improvements. When she returns to service, our goal isn’t simply to have her running again — we want the North Sea to come back better than ever.

Every day we aren’t carrying passengers is a difficult one for Captain Dave. We know people are waiting to get out on the water, and nobody wants to get back out there more than he does.

But there is one thing we will never compromise:

The North Sea must be 100% ready and safe before Captain Dave takes passengers back on the water.

Here’s the good news: The North Sea will be back for our December Seabridge Holiday Lights Home Tours!

These special evening cruises are expected to sell out, and tickets are available now.

• Adults: $20
• Kids: $10
• Tours offered five nights a week
• 17 nights of tours beginning in early December

At this time, these are the only tours available for advance purchase. Regular harbor and sunset adventures will remain unavailable until the North Sea has completed her transmission work and Captain Dave has returned her to service.

To anyone whose trip had to be cancelled because of this setback, we sincerely apologize. Captain Dave is doing everything possible to make things right, and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding.

We’re working hard. We’re moving forward. And we can’t wait to welcome you aboard again.

The adventure isn’t over. We’re just in the engine room for a little while.
