Ahoy Adventurers!

Captain’s Log
November 27th–30th

We kicked off the weekend on Friday, welcoming a lively group of adventurers who were excited to get out on the water. As we eased away from the dock, we were greeted by a classic Channel Islands Harbor scene: cormorants dancing across the docks and a blue heron who looked suspiciously like he was posing for a mugshot. I’m convinced he’s guilty—guilty of being the biggest heron in the harbor. And with the massive amount of mussels on the docks, well… I’m pretty sure the seagulls are framing him.

Cruising toward the harbor entrance, we spotted the elusive harbor seal—a rarity inside the harbor these days. He gave us a quick glance before gliding off toward Seabridge Marina. We also noticed the H.R. Morris dredge moored quietly inside the harbor, likely in the middle of routine maintenance.

Our Friday adventurers enjoyed a full cast of wildlife: sea lions at Sea Lion Cove, pelicans, terns, and an entire congregation of birds perched on the dredge pipes currently stored and waiting for operations to resume.

On Saturday, our morning group showed up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to explore. Once again, the harbor delivered—tons of birds, including beautiful snowy egrets at Silver Strand’s small beach, plus our always-popular sea lions doing what they do best: being loud and lazy.
Later that same day, we welcomed a group of locals just as eager to get on the water. We cruised past boats making their way through the harbor and watched Island Packers heading out toward the Channel Islands. The surf was up, so Silver Strand Beach was buzzing with surfers—with sea lions hauling out nearby like they’d claimed their own VIP section.

All in all, it was a fantastic holiday weekend—lots of birds, lots of marine mammals, great weather, and a sense of some development projects around the harbor hitting a reset as we move into the new month.

Looking ahead to December, I want to thank all our adventurers who came out and shared the harbor with us. It was a beautiful Southern California weekend on the water.
