What a weekend on the water—birthdays, music, food, wildlife, and sunsets that left us all in awe.
Thursday, August 14th
We kicked things off in true harbor style with a birthday celebration. Happy Birthday, Delissa! Big thanks to Loulee for pulling the event together. I fired up the grill with ribs and my famous Dave’s Dogs while guests brought their own food and drinks. It was a feast fit for the sea.
As if that wasn’t enough, the night turned into a full-on karaoke party at the breakwall. With 80’s and 90’s hits echoing across the water, we sang our hearts out through the microphones. The karaoke train kept rolling all the way to the Club Marlin at Fisherman’s Wharf, where we caught Gary Ballen and Helen Freeman performing—music and art at the same time. The place was jam-packed, buzzing with energy. (Note to self: gotta learn more about the Marlin Club—this spot has character.)
Saturday, August 16th
Another birthday, another reason to celebrate! Happy Birthday, Chris! Thank you to Amanda for setting this one up and bringing a beautiful cheese and cracker spread that paired perfectly with our harbor cruise. We toured the local highlights—the Maritime Museum, the Mystic Whaler—and spotted pelicans diving, sea lions basking, and even our first white pelican sighting at the break wall. A rare treat!
Next up was an unforgettable group of ladies who came aboard just to celebrate being together. Their energy was absolutely contagious. We cruised past The Lookout, Mrs. Olson’s, the Rudder Room, and the beach, making sure the whole harbor could see how much fun safari adventures can be. I can’t wait to have this lively crew back aboard.
The sea lions were out in full force this weekend— barking, splashing, climbing rocks, and putting on a show.
That evening, I had the honor of joining Max’s 50 birthday celebration. His friends and family were top-notch company, and they invited me to enjoy their surf-and-turf feast—delicious! I shuttled four different groups on quick 20-minute tours, including a sunset ride and an evening harbor stroll. It was the perfect way to introduce so many first-time adventurers to life on the water. The small-group conversations and excitement were just as rewarding as the views.
Sunday, August 17th
Sunday kept the magic alive. Another fun group came aboard to view up close the real stars of the harbor, the sea lions. If Saturday’s numbers were impressive, Sunday doubled down. They were playful, rowdy, and downright entertaining—challenging each other, leaping across rocks, and even interacting with beach goers.
We ended the weekend with a sunset cruise that left me speechless. The day began with a foggy morning, and I wasn’t sure the sun would make an appearance. But when it finally broke through, it lit up the horizon in dazzling colors. Just as the sun dipped, a boat passed right in front of it, creating a picture-perfect scene. That shot took this week’s Sunset Photo of the Week. Looking Ahead
This will the last weekend for our Old Glory theme. As summer winds down, we’re setting course for a new look—tiki and bamboo vibes all the way. Can’t wait to see the transformation.
Another weekend of memories made, friendships formed, and wildlife celebrated.
