Channel Islands Marine Safari Adventures
️

We kicked off the weekend strong with a pair of eager adventurers ready to take in the natural beauty of the Channel Islands Harbor. Right away, the skies and shoreline didn’t disappoint—Blue Herons, Egrets, and a whole host of sea birds greeted us, their graceful forms cutting across the golden summer light.
What really got my captain’s heart thumping, though, was the return of the sea lions! After nearly three weeks of sparse sightings, this weekend brought them back in full. We counted 30 to 40 sea lions in total, with about ten making a surprise appearance on our inaugural weekend cruise. Their curious eyes and playful barks brought a much-missed energy back to the waters.
The visibility was nothing short of spectacular—we had crystal-clear views of both Anacapa and Santa Cruz Island, with the iconic Anacapa Arch standing proud and bold on the horizon.
Our Sunset Cruise was a standout highlight. The sun put on a performance worthy of applause—fiery, radiant, and unapologetically dramatic as it shimmered across the waves. Sea lions cruised the beaches. Boats entered the harbor with joyful energy. And to top it off, we welcomed back the Mystic Whaler to the harbor—signaling a new season of educational, hands-on sailing experiences aboard this world-class tall ship. A real gem.
Saturday brought a familiar crew—our repeat adventurers returned for a special two-hour tour. We explored not just the main harbor but also some of the less-traveled gems like Tradewinds Cove, rich in marine history and scenic beauty. We had close encounters with the Navy assist boats, spotted several well-known Urchin boats, and watched Sea Tow vessels returning from their daily heroics.
And then… the moment that left us all in awe:
Our first-ever sighting of a Juvenile Night Heron! He was shy, yes—but what a treat to witness such a rare visitor.
As evening fell and the tiki torches lit the shoreline, we were gifted one final thrill—a successful SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch lit up the sky, streaking behind our Tiki-style observation deck like something out of a sci-fi dream. You couldn’t script it better.
This weekend was one for the books: full of natural beauty, rare sightings, a few surprises, and a whole lot of heart.
